18 INTHESPOTLIGHT STAFF PROFILE: NICOLE LANE, TRAVELLING THROUGH LIFE The NEWEST MEMBER of the DCO Tindal team, Family Liaison Officer Nicole is ENJOYING HER ROLE SUPPORTING and HELPING FAMILIES settle into their new community. families can really connect with their community, form lifelong friendships and create amazing memories,” said Nicole. “Your friends become your family, and it really is a wonderful place to raise kids.” Nicole wants to make sure families can look back on their time in Tindal with fond memories and lifelong friendships. “I love my role here and I’m really enjoying the opportunity to get out amongst the local and Defence community. “I like seeing people happy and being the Family Liaison Officer gives me an opportunity to make that happen.” n A fter travelling the world, being an Air Force reservist and married to an Air Force member for 12 years, Nicole knows all about settling into a new place and the challenges of military life. “I understand the opportunities and hardships families can go through being a part of a military family,” said Nicole. “Sometimes it can be tough living in a remote location where you don’t have your support network, such as your family and friends, and the closest department store is over 300 kilometres away!” Nicole’s strong sense of community and desire to help others has been a driving force for many years. She volunteers her time organising events for Network Tindal, coaching kids’ netball and football, and helping out at her children’s school. “I love being busy and being a part of the community I live in, so volunteering is a great way to meet new people and help others,” said Nicole. Growing up in the small town of Narrandera in the New South Wales Riverina, Nicole caught the travel bug, travelling to places like Brazil right after leaving school. It was following moves to Wagga Wagga and Sydney that she met her husband Tommy, who was posted to Richmond at the time.
